A Time Capsule is a container which holds present day items, such as photos, drawings, objects, letters, notes and more. Building a time capsule gives us the opportunity to capture and preserve memories for the years to come. Time Capsules are supposed to be hidden away for our future selves. They are also a way to tell future generations a little bit about us and our life today. Our fourth graders decided to store memories that they will cherish forever by building a Time Capsule of their own, using shoe boxes, wooden boxes, plastic storage containers or even jars. For their Time Capsules, our students picked items which reveal information about their own preferences, goals and ambitions such as photos, favourite presents or letters to their future selves. Then, they proceeded to including items which show best what life is like in the 21st century, such as newspaper articles, bus or cinema tickets and coins. The Time Capsule project was highly rewarding since our students managed to talk about themselves and reflect on their lives, using English. Not to mention the fun part; they ended up having a box full of memorabilia!
