Why are the days in winter so short? Why are there seasons? Why is the winter solstice so important?

These were some of the questions we tried to explain with our students today during the English lesson. The winter solstice, also known as midwinter, is an astronomical phenomenon marking the day with the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year. The children watched a video about the winter solstice and experimented using the globe in class. They also managed to answer a questionnaire about this important phenomenon.
